Unfortunately, accidents happen. Accidently dropping or crushing your dentures may cause them to crack or break. If this happens, you should inspect the denture to make sure no pieces have broken off. If possible, try to locate any broken pieces of the denture and keep them somewhere safe until the denture can be repaired. Resist the urge to glue/fix the denture yourself. Glue between the broken pieces make repairing the dentures more difficult.

Ill-fitting dentures that rock around in the mouth are prone to fractures and can cause trauma to the oral tissues and remaining teeth. Some hard foods (nuts, pork crackling etc) may push your denture past its structural limit causing them to break.

If you have concerns, see your prosthetist for a check up to ensure your dentures still fit your teeth and/or gums well to help keep your dentures intact and fitting comfortably.

Can dentures be repaired or modified?

In most cases, yes. Fractured denture bases and denture teeth can be repaired or replaced if required. An impression is often required to ensure the denture is repaired to fit the oral tissues accurately, or to make sure the new teeth are placed in the correct position between your remaining teeth.

How long does it take?

Acrylic denture fractures, or breaks, and teeth additions can be repaired within a couple of hours. These appointments are scheduled with us earlier in the mornings to ensure we have as much time as possible to get your denture back to you before the end of the same day. Other more complex repairs, and repairs to some chrome dentures, may take several days depending on the circumstances.

When you contact us to schedule a repair, please provide a detailed description on what has happened to the denture so that we can accurately assess how long we will need to keep your denture before returning it to you.

Where are my dentures repaired?

All repairs are completed on site. We have dedicated equipment and materials to repair your dentures professionally.

Can I wear a broken denture?

Broken dentures may cause injury to your oral tissues or remaining teeth. In most cases it is possible to wear the denture while a part is broken or missing. Have your denture looked at and repaired asap to prevent further damage.

Do I need a repair or new denture?

Dentures need to be replaced from time to time. New dentures require a couple of appointments before they can be completed. A repaired denture can keep you smiling while your new denture is being fabricated. Having a back-up / spare denture is always worth considering.

Can extra teeth be added to my dentures?

Yes, it is possible to add additional teeth onto an existing partial denture to replace a natural tooth that has been extracted or needs to be extracted. The space of the extracted tooth is replaced with a new acrylic tooth which is attached to the existing denture. We will begin by taking impressions and fabricating models of your teeth to ensure that the new tooth is added accurately to the existing denture for the best possible fit & outcome.
